Hospice provides the opportunity for clinicians to practice in a highly independent environment. Clinicians are responsible for establishing clear boundaries over the course of the assignment. At times personal issues, expectations of patients and families, and compassion fatigue can impact the clinical care which is provided. Warning signs and common problem areas will be explored through the use of case examples.
Education, team consultation, and supervision will be discussed as methods to prevent and address boundary crossings and boundary violations.
Note: to register for this event by fax, please download the flyer,
complete it, and fax it to 803.791-5664. If you have any questions about the Breakfast for Brainiacs program, please contact

Tea Time Topics Audio Conference
Caring with Caution
When: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 from 3:00-4:00 pm
Where: Audioconference
Speaker: Risa Hanau, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Social Worker, Risa Hanau Consulting, Greensboro, NC
Nursing Assistants hold a unique place on the hospice team. Often it is the nursing assistant that makes the most visits to a particular patient and has the most intimate relationship with the patient and family due to the nature of the care provided. This combination can lead to difficulty for nursing assistants in establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries. This session will provide information on establishing appropriate boundaries at the start of each assignment, how to self-monitor behavior throughout an assignment, and how to utilize team members and supervisors to problem solve. Issues including self-disclosure and gift-giving will be addressed.
Note: to register for this event by fax, please download the flyer,
complete it, and fax it to 803.791-5664. If you have any questions about the Tea Time Topics program, please contact
Tracy Forman at tforman@carolinasendoflifecare.org or 803.791.4220.
